For a call center, where missing a customer call may represent losing sales amounting to several thousand dollars, the significance of uninterrupted service becomes paramount. This understanding led to the development of a robust, four-layer Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) architecture.
Servicing approximately 1,000 agents, FreePBX and Asterisk play a key role in handling all incoming calls. With around 16 instances deployed across two data centers, this system primarily facilitates the transfer of SIP/TLS to WebRTC, enabling agents to receive calls directly in their browsers.
The system also maintains seamless client service even amidst severe challenges such as total loss of the primary data center or over 80% infrastructure loss in the secondary one. This is thanks to the remarkable resilience provided by a Multi-Layer Automated Disaster Recovery solution, largely based on FreePBX and Asterisk capabilities.

The international airline company of French Polynesia was looking for someone to undertake the most surprising project: Building the internal communications system, used by the crew of their new Boeing 787 Tahitian Dreamliner fleet!
OK, that's not exactly true.
What they really sought was a communications system for their training center that could mimic the real system. Still, the platform replica required simple calls between crew members, conference calls, urgency calls, public address, phone books… It even needed ringing and signaling calls to light up LEDs on the emergency exit signs!
Asterisk was up to the task, largely due to ARI. This session describes the specific requirements, delivered solutions, and challenges faced.
