DevOps for Networking: Pets or Cattle?
Many of us in the DevOps world are familiar with the pets vs. cattle metaphor* when talking about virtual machines. “Cattle” refers to the set of virtual machines in a cloud where all are alike and no single one is more important than another – if one, two or a handful go down and stop working, there are other VMs to take their place. On the other hand, “pets” are VMs that have been customized and optimized for running a specific workload, and when they get a bug or stop working for some reason, we spend the time and resources restoring them back to health. Softwaredefined networking SDN is DevOps for networking, and as such, along with network virtualization, is the basis of the cattle approach.

Let’s face it: failures happen, and they inevitably happen at the worst times. On top of this, networks are not easily disposable, as you can’t just spin up new virtual routers and toss them if they don’t behave. But if youre using an overlay, you can simulate failures much more easily using APIs. In this session, Midokura’s Adam Johnson will cover reconciling the “pet” and “cattle” strategies in networking, including some real world case study examples, so you can keep your workloads up and running like they should.

What We Can Learn From the Largest VoIP Rollout In History
While cloud services for business have taken off in the market, there are a few areas where the adoption has been much less pervasive—telephony being a major one. While the SMB and midmarket have embraced cloud telephony at a much greater pace, enterprises have been much more hesitant. The biggest VoIP rollout in history having being completed for Motorola Solutions, however, offers lessons for any business considering a cloud migration. Join this session to discuss some of the main issues facing the adoption of cloud services in business environments. With challenges such as network weaknesses, user adoption, mobile best practices, and additional rollout considerations, a move to the cloud is anything but simple if your business isn’t prepared.

Become a Highly Profitable Hosted VoIP Provider
The telephone ecosystem has evolved tremendously over the past 15 years. Previous widely adopted business models have required SMB players to purchase three separate commodities: 1 internet bandwidth, 2 telephone service, and 3 premisesbased telephone hardware PBX or key system. This required relationships with three or more vendors along with the challenges of trying to integrate disparate technologies and vendors. The new business paradigm is the purchase of network services and a hosted voice solution, often from just one responsible vendor. This session will methodically review and analyze steps necessary to design and build a hosted voice infrastructure, that will allow providers to transition clients from buying lowmargin commodities to revenuegenerating hosted VoIP solutions and network services. Session participants learn to move from making 810% agent commissions selling provider solutions, to making up to 85% margins on higher revenue levels. The business of providing VoIP and network management profitably will be discussed in a forum prepared to systematically discuss challenges and solutions available to VoIP service providers.

Agile Service Delivery in an IMS Network with NFV
NFV and cloudbased applications truly represent a technology turn that will have a profound effect on how underlying infrastructure is deployed for endtoend service delivery, how services and new network functions are rolled out, and the way network functions are architected. Moving network functionality to a virtualized environment and adopting Software Defined Network SDN concepts will also have a fundamental impact on the makeup of service provider organizations and how they manage networks and deliver services. One of the key drivers of NFV/SDN adoption is the implementation of IMS across a wide array of networks.

This session will cover the core role that media resource processing plays in today’s IMS/VoLTE networks and the key media processing capabilities a service provider should look for to position its network to support today’s requirements and to architect its IMS with a cloudbased Network Functions Virtualization NFV approach for more agile service delivery. This session will discuss how operators can arhitect IMS with a cloudbased NFV approach for more agile service delivery.

Bringing NFV to mainstream: How do we get there?
We have already seen some important strides toward Telco Cloud adoption with NFV, and the cloud computing benefits it brings to the telco world. Benefits like the flexibility to quickly scale processing capacity for a network function and the added agility to launch new services will give an extra competitive boost for Telcos on the internet domain. However, is our aim to just reproduce what was been done on the IT cloud, or do we need a specific approach to efficiently implement NFV?

This session will try to answer this question by touching upon the following topics:
The similarities and differences between the IT and the Telco Cloud
Defining the optimal cloud architecture for NFV
Narrowing the performance gap between IT COTS and purposely built hardware
The impact of MANO on improving business agility

By making the cloud a reality, operators have a unique opportunity to optimize their operations, reduce operational costs and position themselves for the next leap forward in technology as we begin laying the groundwork for 5G.

Unified Communications to Support "Conferencing in Motion"
Web and video conferencing solutions have historically been built around supporting conference room telepresence and mobile workers who are at a fixed location. But today’s elusive mobile worker is often hard to pin down, and this redefinition of where we work also redefines how we work – and the technology required to support a workforce perpetually in motion and individuals who must communicate and collaborate with one another no matter the location or how much advanced knowledge the employee has on where they are headed next. This session will define the changing nature of today’s mobile worker, and how unified communications UC services must be delivered to support “on the fly” conferencing and collaboration i.e. – solutions that can be rapidly propped up and do not require downloads, plugins or dedicated conference bridge numbers.

How Managed Connectivity Can Improve Your Cloud Experience
Businesses are experiencing significant cost savings as a result of migrating to the cloud, but all too often customers and providers overlook the challenges of cloud connectivity. Businesses frequently use the public internet to access their services, resulting in poor quality of service and an unreliable and insecure solution. Managed connectivity enables businesses to realize the tremendous ROI and QoS that has eluded some cloud hosted solutions, along with the inherent security of a private connection. In this session, learn how managed connectivity supports the cloud with QoS, SLA guarantees, and more to provide customers with a reliable endtoend package.

Protecting Carrier Revenue Loss Due to IP PBX Fraud
Fraud is a huge industry problem. In its latest 2013 global fraud loss survey, the Communications Fraud Control Association CFCA found that PBX and VoIP hacking fraud methods accounted for $4.4B and $3.6B in lost carrier revenue, respectively. To make matters worse, fraud losses are actually growing faster than telecom revenues, representing 2.1% of total global revenues.

However, most PBX owners remain unaware of fraud until they receive a bill for thousands of dollars for services they never used, along with long legal battles with the phone company. Disputes between carriers and their customers whose PBXs were compromised have reached epidemic proportions.
