Enterprise Metaverse (Room 202)
The term metaverse was coined nearly 30 years ago by author Neal Stephenson in Snow Crash. In stories like this or Ready Player One, the hero finds a better life for himself in a virtual reality world.
McKinsey suggests a market value of $5tn by 2030, while fellow management consultancy firm Gartner predicts a quarter of the world's population will spend at least one hour a day in the metaverse by 2026.
But it is not just for games. Today companies are using it to sell, provide customer care, and even remote work. This means it is not just a toy, but serious business.
This session will offer a brief introduction to what the metaverse is, and will show some of the current players and use cases, with a bit of a look at what could be.

The workforce and workplace have changed. Part of it’s because technology has evolved; part of it is due to changes in employee needs and preferences; and of course, the pace of change was driven largely by necessity starting in 2020. But the fact is, what worked 3 years ago, doesn’t necessarily work today. Businesses need the tools and solutions to support their workforce models and, in many cases, those models may still be evolving. Your solutions need to be flexible enough to allow you to adapt to changing needs, and they need to deliver a comprehensive set of tools so workers can be productive anywhere. They also need to be easy enough to use and manage to avoid undue technical challenges – for both users and IT teams. This panel will discuss what the real needs of today’s workforce are, and how companies can effectively implement tools and technologies to support the needs of their different workers – after all, different roles require different tools. The key in understanding those needs and then finding the right solutions to meet them.

While many such risks are well-known, a distributed workforce creates more points of entry for newer threats, not just from work-based exposure, but from personal online activities as well. Vendors have responded with more sophisticated solutions to both mitigate data security risk for the business as well as protect the personal privacy of your employees. Future of Work Expo (Room 204)
The Great Resignation reflected a re-assessment of priorities for many workers in 2022, and with that, a new social contract is emerging as part of the Future of Work landscape. Both workers and management have had to re-think their relationship with one another, and for 2023, there’s a new attitude on both ends of the spectrum. With today’s tighter economy, workers are more likely to hold on to their jobs, but that doesn’t mean they’re all-in with your company. These dynamics are new, and for the hybrid model to succeed, you need to understand what’ going on. If “quiet quitting” and “quiet firing” are new terms for you, this session will be a must, as it’s defining the latest chapter for how the workplace is evolving.

Enterprise Metaverse (Room 202)
We've been on this rollercoaster before - sitting on the edge of transformative technologies that will reshape the landscape of our civilization, our countries, and our culture. But, this time is different - the world's (digital) infrastructure has never before been prebuilt and as optimized for transformation as it is now. Even in the 21st Century alone, times required for mass adoption have shrunk from decades to a few years, mental barriers to integrating new technology now present more of a risk to not adopt, than to remain conservative. It is a business' prerogative to understand how the changing digital landscape can be the difference between survival and stagnation. This talk focuses on the emergence of Web3/Metaverse as fertile new landscapes that industries and investments have never been more better positioned to engage. The heavy lifting of Web2 and the decade of mobile advancement has set up a major boom time ahead - the pics and shovels are digital, and the grid is already set. What infrastructure will define this decade and how infrastructure investment in the past (including recent recessions) have created the titans of today will be considered in the new pastures before us.

Enterprise Metaverse (Room 202)
The change of how we work is real and it’s here to stay. The future of work is virtual or hybrid. To truly align with the needs of the modern businesses, we must give them the proper tools to operate in this new reality.
Remote teams and organizations need to communicate and collaborate in an engaged and efficient manner. And this is where the metaverse comes in. The immersive experiences ensure engagement among all meeting participants. One cannot nod off or get distracted during a meeting where they’re walking, speaking, gesturing, and interacting with others. Indeed, when people are active, they are much more engaged. Additionally, the 3D environment allows for all necessary information to be brought into the same ‘room’ via integrations and APIs, thus boosting employees’ efficiency and productivity during meetings.
We’re just starting building the various Metaverse apps. There are still many unknowns. What we do know, though, is that the Metaverse is inevitable. The younger, digitally-born generations are sure to embrace it. Indeed, data from the Work Trend Index 2022 (a study of 31,000 people in 31 countries) showed that:
- Half of Millennials and Gen Z envision doing work in the Metaverse in the next 2 years.
- 52% of employees are open to using digital immersive spaces in the metaverse for meetings or team activities in the next year.
- 47% of employees are open to representing themselves as an avatar in meetings in the next year.
Meetings in the Metaverse are engaged, efficient, and much more fun. A great time to be innovating in this space!

Future of Work Expo (Room 204)
Without an engaged workforce, no amount of technology will help your business adapt to the Future of Work. The right technology is essential, however, especially to help workers manage the vast volumes of data coming from a dizzying variety of digital sources. Otherwise, they will be overwhelmed, and won’t have the tools to convert information into knowledge. This is where AI holds great promise, not just to make workflows easier, but to help employees work smarter. While AI is getting better on this front, workers must feel a sense of agency and being valued for their humanity. Too much focus on automation and efficiency will lead to disengagement, and undermine the benefit of investing in new technology. There is a difficult balance to strike here, but it’s critical for Future of Work, and this session is where we’ll find that balance.

The demand for networking expertise is on the rise, and reflects the growing importance of security, reliability, visibility, and control – on-premises and cloud – in today's rapidly evolving digital landscape. The enterprise network backbone has been the foundation of network architecture for decades, but as business-critical applications move from the data center to cloud, enterprises are rethinking backbone network architecture. In the past, cloud was simply another “thing” that needed to be connected to the enterprise network backbone. As cloud becomes the enterprise IT center of gravity, enlightened network architects recognize the architectural, operational and career opportunities that have emerged. This timely discussion looks at how to take advantage of your global infrastructure to reduce inter-region latency, reduce routing complexity, make encryption and zero trust security part of the network, and establish a consistent multicloud operational model in and across clouds that extends to the edge. You’ll leave knowing what you need to deliver a cloud networking and security solution that simplifies the management of cloud networks.

Hybrid work is a cornerstone of Future of Work, and with most teams being decentralized, collaboration efforts must not be location-dependent. Businesses that remain tied to premises-based tools will be challenged to support the hybrid model, especially when it comes to working in teams. This challenge will only intensify if more of your workers elect to prefer working from home, in which case there will be more urgency for cloud adoption. Not only is this the best way to provide a consistent collaboration experience regardless of where workers are based, but this capability will make them feel more connected to the rest of the organization. The secure access service edge (SASE) market is sizzling hot in terms of activity and potential revenue growth. According to Dell’Oro Group, the SASE-related technologies market will exceed $13 billion by 2026. But until now the widespread availability of SASE managed services and overall growth of the SASE services market have been hamstrung by multiple challenges, chief among them customer education and the lack of industry standards. While most of the discussion of SASE has centered around specific technology components, a SASE services standard focuses on the subscriber experience irrespective of how the service is implemented. SASE combines security functions and connectivity services with subscriber policies to meet a higher level of performance and assurance required by modern enterprises. A SASE service enables secure access and secure connectivity for subscriber users, devices, and applications to targeted resources (applications or devices). This access is independent of the location of users, devices, and applications and is authorized according to subscriber policies. Attendees to this session will learn about the importance of building a foundation of SASE services aligned to standards, and next logical steps for SASE: automating the ordering of SASE services via business APIs followed by operational APIs that will enable enterprises to dynamically adjust or track the performance of their SASE services.

Web3 and Blockchain in 2023: The Inextricable Link Between Diversity and Scalability
BC-07 Blockchain and Web3 businesses are reaching a critical juncture. They need to grow and scale, yet that isn’t always as simple as it seems. Scale isn’t just about the technology. Many firms say, “Once we grow, we will focus on diversity." But, that may not be the most successful approach. Growth requires a positive culture and this discussion will consider why the opposite may actually drive better results: “If you want your company to scale quickly, focus on diversity as early as possible.” Discussion topics will include what is DEI in 2023, how diversity and growth/scalability are interconnected, what are obstacles to mass adoption and what are some steps towards a solution, and how these are important to businesses in emerging technology markets, like Web3 and blockchain.

DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) isn’t new – it’s been around for 60 years, since the birth of equal employment opportunity and affirmative action in the 1960s. During the past few years, though, it has come into greater focus than ever due to cultural awareness, demographic shifts, and current events and it continues to play a key role in business success, and there is evidence that companies that place high value on DEI outperform those that don’t. This session will discuss not only discuss why DEI has grown in importance, but also how to develop and maintain successful DEI programs, and how they will positively impact your business.

Our Part 1 session looked at the foundational technologies for this brave new world – augmented reality, virtual reality and mixed reality. This might be enough new technology for some, but if you want to explore the next frontier, that would be the metaverse. Whereas the use cases for Part 1 are episodic in nature, the metaverse represents a continuous state of being. Nobody is ready to inhabit the metaverse full-time, but as gamers know, these virtual worlds feel more real the more time you spend in them. This is a different kind of brave new world, and while clear use cases haven’t yet emerged for hybrid work, it’s really just a matter of time. Even if you can’t make the Part 1 session, you really need to be here, if only just to imagine what’s possible.

Our Part 1 session focuses internally on IT’s primary need – to manage the data network. This is a key Future of Work need, but IT supports more than just technology. Workers are the end users of those technologies, and with hybrid work, IT has never had to support such a broad range of needs and endpoints for them. Not only is there a wide range of endpoints to support – PCs, tablets, desk phones, smart phones, video hardware, headsets, etc. – but also network environments. Creating a consistent user experience across all of this requires careful orchestration, and with home-based workers providing most of their own endpoints, this can become a difficult challenge. For ease of management, IT might be considering a virtual desktop, so many types of approaches are possible. Every situation is different, but this will be the session where you’ll learn best practices from IT leaders.

Future of Work is very much about using the right technologies to support employees from wherever they are working, but another important component is the workspace itself. As the nature of work evolves, so do the spaces where work gets done, and this is happening in a big way as businesses try to entice workers back to the office. Today’s technology has made work from home very manageable, and many see no reason to become office-based again. This has led business leaders to re-imagine the workspaces they’ve been using for so long, focusing more on specific use cases than just being a generic place where everyone simply goes out of habit. There’s a great opportunity here to show employees that you’re thinking carefully about the Future of Work, and in this session, you’ll learn what some of that new thinking looks like.
